Pike Place Studio
Modern & chic, steps away from the Market
Location Downtown, Seattle, WA
Size 419 sq-ft
Year built 1994, remodeled 2024
This 5th-floor studio, with all of its 400-ish square feet, is compact, yet flooded with natural light from tall windows that overlook a private patio larger than the interior itself. The dark wood floors, granite countertops, and kitchen cabinetry were all in perfectly usable condition (albeit dated), so they were retained as part of this refresh.
The redesign focused on creating a studio that would appeal to vibrant, young occupants, perhaps those who work nearby and want to live close to where the action is. We leaned into a modern design that feels lively, bright, and uplifting.
The centerpiece of the space is a full-wall mural of the Seattle Space Needle. The art style itself is playful and optimistic, conveying a sense of possibility and hope. The colors balance the dark wood floors below. (By coincidence, the wall the mural sits on faces the Space Needle itself, just blocks away!)
Opposite the mural, the wall is painted in a bold blue hue (Benjamin Moore’s Galapagos Turquoise 2057-20 in Matte) which complements the artwork. This vibrant blue continues into the bathroom’s wall where it’s punctuated by a deep green vanity.
In the kitchen, the cabinets were repainted in a rich brown-black tone (Benjamin Moore’s Black Beauty 2128-10 in Eggshell), pulling colors directly from the granite countertops. Sleek new cabinet pulls replaced the dated white hardware, and brand-new stainless steel appliances and a futuristic faucet were installed to complement the updated look.
In the bathroom, matte black fixtures and shelving, a black washer and dryer, and an LED light with an integrated Bluetooth speaker reinforce the feel of a modern, urban studio.
